Sketches

A collection of life drawing sketches on paper. I grew up in Peckham, South London, about four roads over from Camberwell College of Art. When I was a small child, my next door neighbour had been a student there as had one of my mum’s best friends and because of them, I associate the smell of oil paint and turps with childhood. At the age of 13, my art teacher at school learned where I lived and suggested that I try attending the Saturday morning life drawing classes that the college was then running. He said he thought I’d be good at it and he would recommend me. I went along and it began my life-long love of drawing and painting. I don’t do it often enough these days but if I could afford to, I would probably just paint and draw from the life model every day. In many ways it’s still when I am at my happiest and genuinely at peace with myself. These recent sketches are mostly done on evenings after work with local life drawing groups.
