Décollage 2005 - present. I started taking photographs of surfaces, billboards and architectural features as a resource to make large, abstracted paintings from. As time went on, I started to simply like the photos and couldn’t see the point in painting from them. Eventually I began to cut into and peel away parts of the photographs. To me it was like I was having a conversation with both the images and the environment around me. The recent décollages are mostly derived from pictures I took on Rye Lane in Peckham, where I grew up. I like to think of them as an ongoing dialogue with the people and events in the area that I still consider to be home.
